Malmi Airport has been by far the most important general aviation hub in Finland. More than 40% of all general aviation operations in Finland have been carried out there. According to a report by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (in Finnish), hobby activities have accounted for 10-20% of Malmi’s operations.

Due to the City of Helsinki’s residential construction plans, government agencies providing important services have had to move away from the international Malmi Airport and its free-schedule runways.
